The biopic Michael has barely hit theaters and already shows the strength of the King of Pop with impressive pre-sale numbers in the United States this March 2026. According to data from the blog World of Reel, the production raised between $80 and $90 million from advance tickets alone for the first weekend. With a scheduled release for April 23 in Brazil, expectations are that the international performance will surpass domestic projections due to the artist’s global fame.
Due to the initial success, Lionsgate breathes a sigh of relief, as the financial performance dictates the future of the franchise. Although director Antoine Fuqua’s original cut was four hours long, the version reaching theaters will be only about two hours. Therefore, the team plans to release a second part to complete the story, however, this directly depends on the performance at the worldwide box office.
Star-Studded Cast and Production
The film follows the trajectory of Michael Jackson from the Jackson 5 days to the beginning of his solo career. Starring Jafaar Jackson, the singer’s nephew, the project features a heavyweight team to recreate the golden age of pop music. Additionally, the screenplay is written by John Logan, the same writer of Gladiator, ensuring a dense and thrilling narrative for fans.
The cast also includes names like Colman Domingo and Nia Long playing the star’s parents, while Miles Teller plays the protagonist’s agent. Also participating in the film are Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, and Derek Luke. Thus, the work positions itself as one of the biggest releases of this year 2026. Meanwhile, Brazilian fans eagerly await the opening of local sales to secure a front-row seat.
