Alice in Borderland Canceled by Netflix After Three Seasons

Netflix confirms the end of the Japanese series Alice in Borderland after three seasons, despite solid viewership for the latest season in 2025.

**Netflix** has officially ended the games of **Alice in Borderland**. The streaming platform confirmed in January 2026 the cancellation of the Japanese series after its third season, which premiered in September of last year. With this, the story of Arisu and Usagi comes to an end, despite the final season leaving a hook for a possible international expansion of the plot.

The decision was made even with solid viewership numbers. The third and final season accumulated about 25.3 million views between July and December 2025, according to data released by Netflix itself. This performance placed it as the 36th most-watched series on the platform that semester, just behind the fourth season of *The Witcher*. The company, however, did not detail the specific reasons for ending the production.

## A journey of success and deadly challenges

The series, which originally premiered in December 2020, won fans around the world by following the young Arisu, played by Kento Yamazaki, in a parallel and deadly universe known as Borderland. There, he and other participants had to survive a series of lethal games. The plot, based on the manga of the same name, seemed to have reached its climax with the second season, but Netflix decided to produce a third round of episodes.

This final season, released in 2025, brought back the main couple played by Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya (Usagi) and expanded the cast with other Japanese talents. The ending, however, surprised by introducing a character named Alice, an American waitress, suggesting that the series’ universe could expand beyond Japan. This opening, however, will not be explored due to the cancellation.

Thus, the three seasons of *Alice in Borderland* remain available in Netflix’s catalog as a complete chapter. The cancellation reflects the always dynamic strategy of streaming platforms, which constantly evaluate the cost and engagement of their productions. For fans, all that remains is to revisit the released episodes and speculate on how the story could have continued.
