dbrand responds to Nintendo with green and purple skins for Switch 2 Joy-Con

Nintendo has revealed the first alternative colors for the Joy-Con controllers of its new console, the Switch 2, but the reception has been cold. The purple and green models, announced in January 2026, left fans frustrated, as the color change is minimal, restricted only to the connectors and the ring around the analog sticks. Therefore, the accessory company dbrand acted quickly, launching adhesive skins that promise to completely transform the appearance of the controllers.
The launch of the colored controllers, with an estimated price of around R$ 500 per pair, generated more criticism than the Japanese giant expected. Meanwhile, dbrand launched the solution within a few hours: a skin kit in the same official shades for $19.95 (approximately R$ 100). This way, players who want a bolder look can apply the stickers and have fully green or purple Joy-Cons, something that Nintendo itself did not offer.
A rivalry that heats up the market
The product description on dbrand’s store does not spare criticism of Nintendo, with the famous phrase “dbrand does what Nintendon’t.” The company, known for its irreverent tone, stated that it was a “meticulous” process to match the skin colors to the official details, even with the short time between the announcement and the response. However, a warning is in order: even with the stickers, the console’s internal magnetic connection will still reveal the connectors in the original orange and blue colors, a detail that no third-party product can change for now.
Thus, the question that remains is how Nintendo will handle this reaction and the rapid action of the parallel market. Despite the disappointment, many assumed that the company might not even release alternative colors, due to the console’s unique design. Therefore, dbrand’s move highlights the demand from players for more customization, a marketing game that is just beginning.
