Netflix announces live-action series based on manga about sexual therapist

Netflix announced this Monday, January 12, 2026, that it will produce a live-action series based on the manga S and X: Confession of a Therapist. The adaptation, scheduled to premiere later this year on the platform, features Japanese actor Kento Nakajima in the lead role. The story follows sex therapist Ichito Shimotori, who helps clients with complex intimate issues while facing his own personal problems.
The production arrives at a time when series that address sexuality and mental health with sensitivity are gaining global prominence. With worldwide availability, the series promises to explore themes such as erectile dysfunction, sexual trauma, and relationships without intimacy, subjects often treated as taboos. In this way, Netflix is betting on adult and reflective content, expanding its catalog of original Japanese dramas.
Team Behind the Production
The series will be directed by Shōgo Kusano, while the scripts are supervised by Tomoko Yoshida. Furthermore, she also writes the episodes alongside Kusano, Ruriko Matsushima, and Takumi Haba. This team promises to maintain the essence of the original material, which won over readers in Brazil through scans and specialized publications.
The original manga, created by Kisei Tada, was serialized in Kodansha’s Evening magazine between August 2021 and August 2022, totaling three volumes. Therefore, the adaptation arrives just a few years after the work’s conclusion, capitalizing on recent fan interest. Expectations are now high to see how the delicate narratives from the page will come to life with real actors, in a production that should blend drama with moments of levity.
