Animal Crossing: New Horizons gets free resort hotel in update

Animal Crossing: New Horizons received a major free update this Wednesday (14th), introducing a Resort Hotel to your island. The new feature, which marks the beginning of 2026 for the Nintendo game, brings back the family of turtles led by the friendly Kapp’n, a character beloved by fans since the title New Leaf. The hotel appears as a new area on the player’s island pier, replacing the spot used for fishing and mystery tours, and promises to revitalize the experience with new mechanics and an exclusive currency, Hotel Tickets.

The content is relevant because it offers a new layer of endgame and customization for players who have already mastered their islands. Developed by Nintendo, the Resort Hotel functions as a side project requested by Tom Nook, who wants to increase the location’s notoriety. In this way, players need to decorate eight themed rooms to attract tourists, who wander around the island during their stay, bringing more life to the environment. The 3.0 update, as it is called, is available to all game owners, regardless of whether they have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

How the new resort works

To begin, players must install the update and head to the pier, where a cutscene introduces Leilani, Kapp’n’s wife and the venture’s manager. She will be the main point of contact, guiding the player in decorating the rooms. The process resembles the system from the Happy Home Paradise DLC, as the player receives a specific theme for each environment and has access to a full construction menu, including exclusive items from the hotel’s souvenir shop. After finishing a room, it’s necessary to take a photo for the guest catalog, an action that helps attract more visitors.

The reward for this work comes in the form of Hotel Tickets, a new currency that can only be obtained by decorating rooms or fulfilling DIY requests. With these tickets, it’s possible to buy items at Grams’ souvenir shop, whose stock rotates daily. However, there is an important detail: buying from the catalog, to receive the items at home, incurs a fee of approximately 30%, making the physical purchase at the hotel more advantageous for high-value items. Furthermore, it’s possible to use amiibo cards at the reception to invite specific characters as tourists, although they cannot move in permanently on this occasion.

The Resort Hotel thus emerges as a substantial and welcome addition to a game that continues to receive support years after its launch. It not only rekindles the interest of veteran players but also offers a new long-term goal and a creative way to spend time on the island. With the promise of bringing more movement and personality to the game’s peaceful world, the update demonstrates Nintendo’s commitment to keeping the Animal Crossing: New Horizons experience fresh and engaging for its community in Brazil and around the world.
