The Emotional Plot of ‘Road to Recovery’ ‘Road to Recovery’ follows a father and his terminally ill daughter as they embark on a cross-country trip. The goal is to find the boy she loves. During the journey, the two are forced to confront their shared grief and redefine what it means “to hold on and let go.”
A Personal Story for the Director The project is deeply personal for Scout Taylor-Compton, who wrote the script following the death of her mother from cancer, drawing from her own experience. “I wrote ‘Road to Recovery’ in the middle of my grief,” said Taylor-Compton. “It became less about loss and more about love, the kind that stays with you long after someone’s gone.”
Directorial Debut and Next Steps This is the first project under Taylor-Compton’s new banner, Building Blocks Productions, which will focus on “emotionally driven, character-centered storytelling.” Production on ‘Road to Recovery’ is expected to complete later this fall, with a festival run eyed for 2026.
