Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Movie Breaks Box Office Record in Japan

Chainsaw Man once again proves its power at the box office. The film Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, an adaptation of the Reze character arc from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga, reached the monumental milestone of 10 billion yen (approximately R$ 320 million*) in Japan. This achievement occurred within its first 103 days of screening, between September 19 and December 30, 2025, with the sale of an impressive 6.55 million tickets. The production not only dominated its debut, dethroning Demon Slayer from the top spot, but also solidified the franchise as one of the biggest current phenomena in Japanese pop culture.

The success was so significant that the author himself, Fujimoto, drew a special illustration to thank the audience. The film quickly expanded its reach to the international market, thanks to the worldwide rights acquired by SPE (Sony Pictures Entertainment). With an early release in over 80 countries still in September, the production had already accumulated about US$ 68.3 million globally by October. In North America, for example, the premiere yielded approximately US$ 17.25 million, demonstrating the universal appeal of the story of Denji, the boy with a devil’s heart who became the Chainsaw Man Devil Hunter.

The Legacy of Chainsaw Man and New Projects

The trajectory of the manga, which began in 2018 in Weekly Shonen Jump, already boasts over 30 million copies in circulation and a history of awards. While the Reze Saga film celebrates its milestone, the universe of the work continues to actively expand. The popular assassin saga, the Shikaku Arc, is already confirmed to receive an anime adaptation. Additionally, fans can expect a second theatrical play, also focused on the Reze Arc, with performances scheduled for Tokyo and Kyoto between July and August 2026.

Thus, the box office record is not an endpoint, but rather a clear sign of the franchise’s continued vigor. With the manga in its second part and new adaptations on the way, Chainsaw Man is set to continue captivating Brazilian and global audiences throughout this year of 2026, solidifying its place among the great names in Japanese entertainment.
