Manga ‘The Girl, the Shovel, and the Evil Eye’ Resumes and Ends in 3 Chapters

The manga ‘The Girl, the Shovel, and the Evil Eye’, work by author Kayatamaru, resumed its publication this week, but with an announcement that took fans by surprise: the story will end in just three chapters. Scheduled for completion in February, this sudden conclusion marks the end of the journey that began in April 2020 on the Japanese service Suiyōbi no Sirius. The decision, still without a detailed explanation, ends a series that already has four physical volumes and was licensed for digital publication in the US by Kodansha USA.
The fifth volume, which will be the last, already has a scheduled date to hit Japanese shelves on February 9, 2026. Meanwhile, Brazilian fans who follow the work through scans or international editions eagerly await the outcome of the plot, which involves a girl, a magical shovel, and a curse. The story, originally a web novel posted between 2018 and 2019, won a dedicated audience thanks to its unique premise and characteristic chibi illustrations.
From Digital to Physical: The Work’s Trajectory
In addition to the manga, the franchise also came to life through physical novels published in Japan by Kodansha under the Legend Novels imprint. The first book appeared in June 2019, followed by a second volume just four months later. Thus, the narrative created by Chouchouhassha built a universe across multiple media. The American edition, in turn, released the fourth volume digitally in February 2023, demonstrating the work’s international reach.
Therefore, the announcement of the end in just three chapters raises questions about the author’s planning. Despite this, the conclusion scheduled for February gives readers a clear deadline to say goodbye to the characters. Thus, the coming months will be decisive to see if the ending will meet the expectations of a community that followed the girl and her shovel for nearly six years.
