Cosmic Princess Kaguya! Netflix Anime Gets New Trailer and Cast

Cosmic Princess Kaguya! has received new details directly from Netflix in early 2026. The streaming platform revealed the second full trailer, in addition to announcing more names from the Japanese cast and the entire English dub lineup for the anime film. Directed by Shingo Yamashita, the film is a futuristic retelling of the classic Japanese tale “The Bamboo Cutter” and promises to blend the virtual world with contemporary reality. Scheduled for release this year, the production emerges as one of the bets in Netflix’s Japanese animation catalog to win over the Brazilian fan audience of the genre.
The plot follows Iroha Sakayori, a 17-year-old student from Tokyo overwhelmed between studies and work. Meanwhile, she finds refuge watching streamer Yachiyo Runami on Tsukuyomi, a virtual space where people can live other lives. However, Iroha’s routine changes drastically when she finds a baby emerging from a glowing telephone pole. The child, who quickly grows to the protagonist’s age, is revealed to be Princess Kaguya, starting an unusual partnership in live streams. Thus, the story unfolds as a modern fable about friendship, creativity, and hidden forces that threaten to take Kaguya back to the moon.
Star-Studded Cast and Stellar Soundtrack
In addition to the impressive visuals shown in the trailer, the film features a renowned voice cast. Actress and singer Saori Hayami, who brings streamer Yachiyo to life, also performs the main theme “Ex-Otogibanashi”, composed by Ryo from supercell. Meanwhile, veteran Rie Kugimiya (known for voices like Happy from Fairy Tail) joins the project as Fushi, a cute sea slug who is Yachiyo’s partner. The music production is a highlight, also bringing together Vocaloid producers such as kz (livetune), 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot, promising an electrifying and modern soundtrack.
Behind the scenes, Shingo Yamashita, known for his work on openings for Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, makes his feature film directorial debut. The project is a collaboration between his Studio Chromato and the renowned Studio Colorido. To expand the story’s universe, the franchise is already gaining adaptations in other media. A manga by Tarō Yoneda begins serialization this week, and a novel with illustrations by Asao Urata is scheduled for late January, supervised by Yamashita himself, ensuring extra content for fans awaiting the film.
