Scooby-Doo gets new anime series after Velma; announcement was in Brazil

Warner Bros. is developing a new project for the Scooby-Doo gang, but with a completely different approach. Titled Scooby-Doo! Gokko, the series is an official spin-off that follows in the footsteps of the controversial Velma and promises to immerse the franchise in the anime universe. Warner itself announced the news during a makeup event in partnership with the brand Miss Frandy, which took place here in Brazil in November of last year. Scheduled to premiere only in 2027, the series represents a new and bold direction for everyone’s favorite mystery.

The relevance of the news is twofold for the Brazilian audience. First, because the worldwide announcement happened in our territory, showing the importance of the local market. Secondly, because the chosen visual promises to please fans of pop culture and Japanese animation. The title Gokko comes from the Japanese word for ‘pretend play’, and the animation style will be inspired by chibi, that super cute and compact character format. In this way, Warner plans to repeat the successful formula of Tom & Jerry Gokko, a series that is already on the air.

Although there are no official images or trailers, rumors suggest that the series may be a revamp of another previously announced project, Go-Go Mystery Machine. In that plot, which also never got off the ground, Shaggy and Scooby would travel to Japan and, accidentally, release a horde of Yokai monsters. To solve the mystery, they would rely on the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, and new friends. Despite the speculation, Warner has not yet confirmed this connection, leaving fans waiting for more details.

Why does the bet on the anime style make sense?

Warner Bros. is not new to this territory of fusion with Japanese animation. The studio already has a solid history of projects in this line, such as Batman Ninja, Suicide Squad Isekai, and the recent Rick and Morty: The Anime. All these productions were made in partnership with renowned Japanese studios, such as Telecom Animation Film. Therefore, betting on a Scooby-Doo with this aesthetic is a natural move within the company’s global strategy, which seeks to diversify and capture different audiences around the world.

Now, all that’s left is to wait for the coming months for more concrete information. Warner promises to reveal more details about the visual, cast, and plot of Scooby-Doo! Gokko soon. Meanwhile, the news is already heating up the fan community and raises the question: will this new ‘kawaii’ look manage to win over both nostalgic fans and a new generation? The answer, however, will only come in 2027.
