Borderlands 4: Stability Patch Arrives on PC, But Crashes Persist

Borderlands 4 brought back the chaotic looter-shooter formula that fans love so much, but the release was not free from technical problems. Since its arrival, players, especially on PC, have reported instability, performance drops, and mainly constant crashes that disrupt the experience.

Responding to the feedback, Gearbox Software released the first post-launch update for the game. The patch, already available for PC, focuses exclusively on improving stability and overall performance. However, community reception shows that the definitive solution may still be far away.

What Does the New Borderlands 4 Update Do?

Instead of a detailed list of fixes, Gearbox focused on general guidelines and backend optimizations. The main goal of this patch is to solve the performance issues that have been the main complaint.

The developer’s official recommendations are as follows:

  • NVIDIA users: It is recommended to consult the official NVIDIA optimization guide to find the best graphics settings for your video card and resolution. In addition, it is crucial to install the latest Game Ready driver (version 581.29 or higher).
  • AMD users: Similarly, Gearbox suggests that players with AMD cards consult the corresponding optimization guide to adjust graphics settings and ensure the best possible performance.
  • Shader Recompilation: Gearbox warns that after any changes to graphics settings, the game will need to recompile shaders. This process can take up to 15 minutes to complete.

It is important to note that this update does not bring any changes to weapon balancing or skills, being strictly focused on the technical aspects of the game on PC.

The Community Responds: Crash Issues Persist

Despite Gearbox’s efforts, the community response has not been positive. Many players have gone to forums and social media to report that the crash problems have not been resolved even after installing the update.

The situation is so critical for some that refund requests have become common, as constant crashes make the game practically unplayable.

Aware of the situation, Gearbox’s head, Randy Pitchford, confirmed on his profile on X (formerly Twitter) that the team is already working on more updates. The expectation is that upcoming patches will be more effective in addressing the root causes of the stability problems affecting the PC version.

Is the Game Worth It Despite the Problems?

It is undeniable that the technical issues are frustrating. However, the consensus is that Borderlands 4’s gameplay remains extremely fun. As highlighted in several reviews, “if you already love the Borderlands franchise, it’s guaranteed that you will love this new addition to this chaotic and bombastic looter-shooter.”

For now, the recommendation is to follow the suggested optimizations and wait for upcoming Gearbox fixes. The core of the game is solid, and it is expected that, with the right adjustments, all players will be able to enjoy the experience without interruptions.
