Artist Eiji Hashimoto, responsible for the artwork, used his X (formerly Twitter) account to reveal a teaser for a new one-shot or chapter in development. The announcement was made at the end of 2025, but the news is gaining traction now in January 2026, exciting the fan community of this historical series. Thus, the creative duo formed by Hashimoto and writer Shinya Umemura is set to return with more content for the saga of the famous police officers of the Bakumatsu period, keeping alive a franchise that began in 2010.
In the post, which also includes a draft of chapter 69 of his other work, ‘Rappa: Yankee Ninpū Chō,’ Hashimoto made a kind of ‘appeal’ showing that he worked non-stop during New Year’s. It is still unclear whether this is a regular chapter or a standalone story, but the activity is already a positive sign for followers. Meanwhile, the work remains available digitally in English on the Mangamo platform, under the title ‘The Shinsen-gumi,’ telling the story of Hijikata Toshizo and the police force that tried to restore order in Kyoto in the 19th century.
