Hytale Releases Update 2 with Necromancy and Improved Mining

Hytale, the RPG sandbox that launched successfully just a few weeks ago, has just received its second major update in January 2026. Developed by Hypixel Studios, the game—which had a rocky path, including the departure of Riot Games—is evolving at an impressive pace. Update 2, now available for download, brings significant changes to progression, world generation, and introduces the first elements of magic, with necromancy taking the spotlight. This development speed, which already surprised players with a patch three days after launch, reinforces the team's commitment to keeping the game relevant and engaging for the global community.

The main focus of this new version is to make the experience more satisfying and less reliant on luck. To that end, the developers completely overhauled the mining system. Now, pickaxes have their mining speed scaled according to quality, while ores appear in greater quantity and with smarter distribution across the map. This makes the player's equipment progression smoother and more predictable, answering a long-standing request from the community.

The Grimoire and the Future of Magic

The big draw of this update, however, is the introduction of necromancy through the Necromancy Grimoire. This rare item, which can be obtained by defeating a Praetorian Skeleton, allows the player to raise up to five minions from a pile of bones. It's a first glimpse of the magic system to come. Simons Collins-Laflamme, CEO of Hypixel, made it clear that this is just a fun objective and does not represent the complete system. The plan is to develop a more robust magic system with mana and varied spells in future updates.

Beyond these content additions, Update 2 brings a host of highly anticipated quality-of-life improvements. Players finally got the option to visually hide their armor, a highly requested customization feature. The patch also includes various balance tweaks, bug fixes, and stability optimizations, ensuring a more polished experience. With this continuous and rapid support, Hytale shows it's here to stay in the competitive sandbox game scene, carving out its space with consistent updates and by listening to its audience.
