Mojang Studios, the developer of Minecraft, has revealed the first new feature of the major spring 2026 update, focused on improving the models of baby farm animals. Scheduled for release in the season, the change promises to make calf, pig, wolf, chicken, and rabbit offspring look more like real young, abandoning the classic design of a big head and small body. The alteration, although well-received, sparked a curious debate among players: the ideal position of rabbits’ eyes. Meanwhile, the Mojang team is working to refine the details before the official release.
The discussion gained momentum on social media, where a player demonstrated how placing the eyes on the sides of the head, rather than the front, makes the rabbit more realistic. This appeal for a design more faithful to nature, however, divides opinions. On one hand, some argue that side eyes are anatomically correct for a prey animal. On the other hand, part of the community prefers the traditional “killer rabbit” aesthetic, with front-facing eyes and a menacing air, which has already become an iconic feature within the game.
The armadillo precedent and the direction of updates
This is not the first case where players have influenced a mob’s design. A recent and successful example was the armadillo, added in 2023. Initially, it also had front-facing eyes, but, thanks to community requests, Mojang repositioned them to the sides, an adjustment everyone agreed greatly improved its look. This history shows how the developers are open to feedback, suggesting that the rabbit eyes controversy could indeed be revisited. Besides the rabbit, it’s interesting to note that the horse, one of the game’s first mobs, has always had side eyes, while the foal model has not yet been changed in the announced update.
Mojang’s strategy for 2026 seems to focus on subtle yet impactful improvements to the existing experience, rather than just adding new biomes or grand structures. The overhaul of baby animals is a clear indicator of this direction, which values refining the details that fans see and interact with every day. In this way, the spring update could be the prelude to more in-depth and layered farming mechanics, making farm life in the block world even richer and more rewarding for Brazilian players and those worldwide.
