However, the official list, released last Wednesday (7), left out some of the productions most anticipated by Brazilians. As a result, fans of hits like ‘Wednesday’ and ‘Ginny & Georgia’ will need to be patient, as these and other series are not expected to return before 2027. The absence of these titles generates speculation about cast changes, creative adjustments, or simply a new release strategy by the streaming giant.
The official announcement, which brings the final seasons of ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Outer Banks’, in addition to new batches of ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘One Piece’, served as a thermometer of what we will watch this year. On the other hand, the exclusion of popular names indicates long-term planning. Thus, the Brazilian audience, one of the largest consumers of the platform in the world, awaits new dates, which may be announced in a second wave of announcements throughout 2026. Meanwhile, the platform seems focused on finishing established franchises before investing in new seasons of these absent productions.
What’s behind the delays?
Among the most talked-about titles is ‘Ransom Canyon’, a drama based on the books by Jodi Thomas. The series, which premiered in April 2025, will have significant changes in its second season. Due to departures of main cast members, such as Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, the already completed production will gain new faces, including Steve Howey in a recurring role. Additionally, filming is still ongoing in New Mexico, which contributes to the delay. However, Netflix has not yet confirmed a specific release date.
As for ‘Ginny & Georgia’, which broke viewership records in its third season in the summer of 2025, it is in full production of its fourth part. Protagonist Brianne Howey gave an exclusive preview in November of last year, expressing excitement about the direction of the story after Georgia’s surprise pregnancy. “The end of season 3 perfectly set us up for season 4,” said the actress, who wants to see her character on the “right side of history with her children.” Despite the hard work of the cast, the absence of the series from the 2026 calendar suggests a wait until the following year.
Other international productions, such as the British ‘Supacell’ and the Australian ‘Heartbreak High’, were also left out of the initial list, indicating that their new chapters are planned for 2027. Therefore, Netflix’s strategy seems to be to space out its major releases, maintaining a steady flow of premium content, but without saturating the audience with all its bets at once. Thus, 2026 will be the year of epic farewells, while 2027 promises the return of old favorites with new stories.
