RuriDragon: Kyoto Animation Announces Anime Adaptation for 2026

RuriDragon will finally get its anime adaptation, thanks to an announcement made by the renowned Kyoto Animation last weekend. The Japanese studio revealed the big news in a thank-you video published in early January 2026, coinciding with the celebration of the protagonist Ruri’s birthday. The news, received with enthusiasm by the fan community in Brazil, represents a milestone for the work of author Masaoki Shindō, although the anime’s broadcast is still far away, as the studio itself admitted.
Thus, fans can look forward to the arrival of the story of the dragon girl who oscillates between laziness and effort, bringing characteristic humor. The adaptation is in the hands of Kyoto Animation, a studio acclaimed for titles such as Violet Evergarden, which promises a production of high visual quality. Therefore, expectations are high, especially considering that the manga has been published in English since 2022 and has gained a significant audience, including among Brazilians who follow shonen news.
Trajectory and Expectations for the Work
The RuriDragon manga began its journey in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2022 but faced some hiatus periods due to health issues of the author, Masaoki Shindō. Despite this, the series moved forward, migrating to the digital version of the magazine in 2024 and accumulating four physical volumes so far. With a premiere forecast only in an as-yet-undetermined future, the anime’s production is expected to follow the careful pace of Kyoto Animation, known for its attention to detail.
For the Brazilian audience, accustomed to consuming anime through streaming platforms, this is another promise for the wishlist. The light and comical story of the young dragon girl has everything to please, blending fantasy elements with everyday situations. Thus, while we await more news throughout 2026, the news already warms the hearts of fans and confirms the continued success of works originating from Jump in the global animation scene.
