Carrie, the Strange, Gets a Premiere Date and a Disturbing Teaser Poster on Prime Video

Prime Video has set the premiere date for Carrie, the Strange, a new miniseries based on Stephen King's classic novel. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan, the eight-episode production will arrive on the streaming service's catalog on October 15th. Along with the announcement, the platform released the first official teaser poster, offering a glimpse into the project's dark and distressing tone.

The story will retell the tale of Carrie White, a shy and isolated teenager living under the strict rule of her extremely religious mother. A constant victim of bullying at school, the young woman discovers she possesses impressive telekinetic abilities. When a cruel prank at the prom crosses all boundaries, Carrie unleashes her powers in a spiral of devastating revenge.

The Weight of Adaptation and Mike Flanagan's Direction

This project marks Mike Flanagan's reunion with Stephen King's work. The filmmaker has solidified his position as one of modern horror's most influential figures after directing The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and the film adaptations of Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep. Flanagan serves as showrunner, writer, and director for episodes of the miniseries, ensuring a faithful approach to the original material published in 1974.

The new version carries the responsibility of updating one of the most iconic books in horror literature. The original novel marked Stephen King's publishing debut and received its most famous film adaptation in 1976, directed by Brian De Palma and starring Sissy Spacek. The franchise also saw a sequel in 1999 (The Rage: Carrie 2) and a remake in 2013, starring Chloë Grace Moretz.

What's Changing and What to Expect from the New Version

Unlike previous film productions, the miniseries format allows for a deeper exploration of the book's narrative structure. King's novel uses newspaper clippings, fictional testimonials, and scientific reports to document the tragedy caused by Carrie, a technique that is expected to be featured in the Prime Video adaptation to build a documentary-style suspense atmosphere.

The cast includes Summer H. Howell (Cult of Chucky) as Carrie White, while Samantha Sloyan (Midnight Mass) plays her mother, Margaret White. The main ensemble also features Sienna Agudong, Matthew Lillard, Karen Gillan, and Raúl Castillo in prominent roles.

Scheduled for release in the Halloween season, all eight episodes of the miniseries will premiere simultaneously on Prime Video on October 15th.
