The Japanese producer Toei announced, through its official X account (formerly Twitter), the premiere date for the highly anticipated series Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity. The news, which is the first project of the company’s new live-action tokusatsu brand, Project R.E.D., will arrive on TV Asahi on February 15, 2026, at 9:30 AM local time. The reveal came accompanied by a trailer, visuals, and team details, generating great anticipation among fans of the genre. Directed by Hirofumi Fukuzawa and written by Atsuhiro Tomioka, the production promises to revive the spirit of the original 1982 series, but with a completely new story.

The premiere of Gavan Infinity happens at a time of significant changes in the universe of Japanese superheroes. This is because, in this year of 2025, Toei and TV Asahi confirmed the end of the long-running Super Sentai franchise, after the broadcast of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger. Thus, the new Project R.E.D. brand, which will have heroes with a red theme and interconnected stories, emerges as one of the future pillars for the channel’s famous “Super Hero Time.” The series, therefore, is not just a nostalgic tribute, but a strategic step to renew public interest in tokusatsu.
The Legacy and Future of Japanese Heroes
Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity promises to honor the original series, which was the first in Toei’s Metal Hero line in 1982. The new production maintains iconic elements, such as the hero’s metallic suit and the science fiction space setting. Meanwhile, the end of Super Sentai after 49 seasons, reported by the Kyodo agency, was attributed to financial challenges, as revenue from merchandising and events no longer covered the high production costs. Despite this, the legacy is immense: it was from the Sentai series that the global Power Rangers franchise was born in 1993, celebrating 32 years in 2025.
Thus, the tokusatsu scene is experiencing a moment of transition in 2026. Project R.E.D. presents itself as a new bet, with the freedom to create crossovers between its heroes. For Brazilian fans, who grew up watching adaptations like Power Rangers and Jaspion (another Toei classic), the arrival of Gavan Infinity represents a bridge between nostalgia and new developments in the genre. It remains to be seen whether the new formula, which combines respect for the origins with original narratives, will manage to win over a new generation of viewers.
