Towerborne: Xbox changes game from free to paid; see price and date

The developer Stoic, with the publisher Xbox Game Studios, announced a major strategic shift for the highly anticipated Towerborne. The game, an action RPG in the “side-scrolling” style, will be officially released on February 26, 2026. However, as it prepares to hit the market, it will no longer be a free-to-play, always-online title as initially planned. Instead, Towerborne will arrive as a paid game with a full offline mode option, a decision that comes after direct feedback from players during the early access period.
Therefore, the official launch in February will mark a business model transition. Due to this change, Stoic had to deeply rebuild the game’s systems over the past year, transforming structures designed for constant connectivity. As a result, the company promises to deliver a more complete, accessible, and player-focused experience, without continuous monetization mechanics or “pay-to-win” systems. In this way, the shift to a premium model aims to cater to an audience that wants to escape the traditional “forever games” that demand a lot of time.
Thanks to this restructuring, the 1.0 version of Towerborne will come with its main story complete, new bosses, and a revamped difficulty system. Furthermore, all in-game cosmetics can be unlocked for free through gameplay, eliminating the need for purchases. Meanwhile, players already participating in early access will retain their progress. The game will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PC via Xbox and Steam, PlayStation 5, and naturally, in the Game Pass catalog from day one.
Prices and Available Editions
The shift to a paid model brings specific price points. With a release scheduled for February 26, the Standard Edition of Towerborne will have a suggested price of R$ 124.95. On the other hand, the Deluxe Edition, which will include extra content, will hit the market at R$ 149.95. This pricing decision follows the trend of “buy once, play forever” premium games, a direct contrast to the dominant free-to-play models in the market.
Thus, Towerborne positions itself as an interesting alternative in the cooperative RPG landscape of early 2026. The ability to play offline and own the complete experience permanently is its greatest asset. Therefore, this turnaround may indeed attract players seeking an adventure without long-term commitments or recurring expenses, offering a clear and direct value proposition to the Brazilian audience.
