World Trigger has a new hiatus due to author’s health; find out when it returns

World Trigger, the popular manga by Daisuke Ashihara, will go on another brief hiatus. Due to the author’s health issues, the series will not have a new chapter in the January 5th issue of Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine. With a scheduled return, the manga is expected to resume only in the March 2026 issue, which hits Japanese newsstands on February 4th. This is not the first time Ashihara has needed a break, as his fragile health has led to several interruptions over the years, a factor that worries the work’s dedicated fans.

The official announcement came via the manga’s X (formerly Twitter) account this Monday. Therefore, readers will have to wait a few more weeks for the continuation of the story. Thus, the current hiatus follows a pattern already observed in 2025, when the work had breaks in January, February, and August for the same reasons. Despite this, the series’ production remains active, with the 29th compiled volume having been released in Japan last December.

History of hiatuses and anime’s future

World Trigger‘s journey in magazines is marked by hiatuses. The series, which debuted in 2013 in Weekly Shonen Jump, already underwent a prolonged hiatus between 2016 and 2018 before migrating to Jump SQ. However, the franchise remains strong in other media. Meanwhile, the anime will receive a “Reboot Project” produced by Toei Animation, promising to readapt the manga from the beginning with the Border Recruitment, Large-Scale Invasion, and B-Rank Wars arcs.

Additionally, stage plays based on the work continue successfully. The fifth stage adaptation, focused on the “B-Rank Final Battle” arc, was performed between April and May of this year, 2026. For Brazilian fans following the series digitally, services like Manga Plus and Viz Media offer chapters in English simultaneously with Japan, a way to ease the longing while waiting for the return of the original chapters.
