End of Exclusives? New Xbox CEO Breaks Silence and Responds to Fan Pressure

Xbox has a new boss, and she had to face the community’s biggest controversy on her very first day on the job. Asha Sharma took over as CEO of Microsoft Gaming following Phil Spencer’s retirement and took to social media to calm players worried about the brand’s future.

The executive built her career at giants like Meta and Facebook and does not have a traditional background in the video game world. This left many fans skeptical about Xbox’s strategy going forward, especially regarding major franchises like Halo, Gears and Forza.

The Weight of Exclusives

The pressure started on X (formerly Twitter), when a fan tagged Sharma in a post about the importance of keeping games only on Microsoft’s console. The user argued that exclusive titles create Xbox’s identity and are the key to the platform’s success.

Asha Sharma responded directly: “We hear you.” She also used the interaction to chat casually with the player, sharing her top 3 favorite games, which include Halo, Valheim and 007. The new CEO also exchanged messages with official profiles of in-house franchises, showing she is willing to engage with the community.

What Changes for the Future of Xbox?

Sharma’s simple answer tries to put out a fire that has burned for years in the Xbox community. The strategy of bringing Xbox games to rival platforms such as PlayStation and Nintendo sparked much debate and harsh criticism during Phil Spencer’s tenure.

Now, the market is closely watching Microsoft’s next moves. Sharma’s experience with social media and artificial intelligence points to a focus on competing with hugely engaging platforms like Roblox and TikTok.

Despite the new CEO’s receptive stance, Microsoft maintains its multi-screen expansion strategy and has yet to announce official changes to its exclusivity policy.
