Jujutsu Kaisen Is Epic, but These 6 Anime Manage to Be Even Better

The success of Jujutsu Kaisen remains unshakable in February 2026, but the world of Japanese animation offers works that challenge even the top of the charts. While MAPPA’s production is a visual landmark, other titles deliver denser scripts or even more complex magic systems. That is why we have selected essential productions for those seeking stories that take the shonen genre and dark fantasy to a new level.

While Jujutsu focuses on visceral combat, some works explore pure strategy and psychological depth more deeply. As such, the list below gathers the best for those who demand technical quality and watertight plots.

6 Anime That Exceed Expectations

• Hunter x Hunter (2011): The Nen system is widely seen as the most balanced and creative in history, surpassing the rules of Cursed Energy.
• Chainsaw Man: With a chaotic, visceral narrative, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s work focuses on despair and humanity in a way Jujutsu rarely achieves.
• Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: An absolute classic that keeps a perfect pace and a satisfying conclusion, something rare in long series.
• Fate/Zero: If you like Gege Akutami’s serious tone, this anime delivers a magical war with philosophical dilemmas and elite animation by Ufotable.
• Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War: The franchise’s return brought a visual standard that competes directly with the best moments of Gojo and Sukuna.
• Vinland Saga: Although it leans toward historical realism, its character development and the weight of consequences surpass the structure of any traditional shonen.
