Paramount Completes Warner Acquisition and Reshapes Hollywood

From the movie theater to the TV app, a single company now takes up more space in the routine of entertainment fans. Paramount completed this Tuesday, October 6, 2026, its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, forming the new Skydance.

The deal brings together two traditional Hollywood houses and combines businesses that used to compete for audiences and investment separately. The question for viewers goes beyond catalog size: how will this concentration translate into films, access, and the subscription experience?

A US$110 billion acquisition

The deal announced in February assigned Warner Bros. Discovery an enterprise value of US$110 billion, with payment of US$31 per share. Enterprise value measures something different from the share price; that is why figures presented without this distinction can look contradictory.

The now-confirmed closing is the step that turns the agreement into a completed acquisition, after the approval process.

Cinema stays at the center of the promises

In the deal’s original presentation, Paramount promised to keep both studios running and to produce 15 theatrical films per year at each one. It also announced a global minimum 45-day window before titles reach paid video on demand.

These are commitments disclosed by the company. Each production’s calendar and the delivery of these promises need to be tracked separately.

What about streaming?

The statement published this Tuesday brings Paramount+ and HBO Max together in the group’s portfolio, alongside operations such as HBO, CBS, CNN, and CBS News.

Back in March, the company had already announced plans to combine HBO Max and Paramount+. That plan and the closing of the acquisition are separate steps: the acquisition alone does not announce a new subscription price or a migration timeline.

The challenge is delivering value to viewers

Research cited by Forrester helps show subscriber concern. In a ConsumerVoices survey of HBO Max, Paramount+, or both subscribers, 56% pointed to higher prices as their biggest worry.

The result refers to that survey’s audience, not a forecast of price hikes. It poses a concrete question for the new company: will integration make the experience more appealing for paying customers?
