PS5 gets free updates for classic PS4 and PS Plus games

Sony surprised Brazilian players this Friday, January 23, 2026, by releasing a series of free updates for the PlayStation 5. These improvements, focused on classic PS4 games and popular titles from the PS Plus catalog, aim to enhance the user experience on the current console. In doing so, the company shows its commitment to extending the life cycle of established franchises, offering ongoing support even after new generations of hardware have launched.

The updates, already available for download, include bug fixes, stability improvements, and in some cases performance optimizations specific to the PS5. Owners of these games can therefore expect smoother gameplay and fewer technical issues. This initiative is particularly relevant in Brazil, where the price of new games in Brazilian Real (BRL) encourages players to revisit titles they already own in their libraries.

What changes in the updated games?

Although Sony has not released a full list of every game covered, community reports indicate that critically acclaimed titles that are very popular on the subscription service have received attention. The improvements focus mainly on fixing persistent issues fans had been reporting for months. In addition, in some cases the patches also tweak small visual details to make better use of the PS5 hardware.

To check whether a specific game has been updated, players should open the console library, select the title, and press the “Options” button on the controller. In other words, they need to manually check for an update. This quiet move by Sony is seen as a positive gesture to keep the player base active and engaged with the PlayStation ecosystem over the long term.
