Netflix has released the official trailer for Allen, an Australian science-fiction comedy arriving globally on the service on November 12, according to the release date reported to the press. Produced by Ludo Studio, the company best known worldwide for Bluey, the film follows Petey, a man who reunites with his childhood alien friend two decades after Allen disappeared. His return, however, brings an unexpected situation and forces Petey to confront the past.

The video introduces the family-adventure tone and confirms the appearance of the character whose name gives the film its title. The trailer is available on Netflix’s official channel and on Allen’s title page on the platform, which classifies the movie as drama and science fiction. The release marks a new stage in the campaign for the first locally produced live-action feature film from the Australian studio.

A friendship interrupted for 20 years

The story begins with a childhood relationship left unfinished. Petey met Allen as a boy in Queensland, and the two became friends. The alien vanished without saying goodbye. Twenty years later, he returns to Petey’s life; according to the official synopsis, Petey has never completely moved on. Netflix describes the reunion as a return with a complicated and unexpected reason behind it.

The trailer keeps part of the plot under wraps but makes clear that Allen’s return will be more than a nostalgic visit. The official synopsis says Allen is carrying a secret big enough to change the world, and Petey will have to grow up to help him. The campaign has not explained what that secret is, so this report does not treat unanswered questions as facts. The promotional material instead builds curiosity around the visitor and the consequences of his return.

From the world of Bluey to a live-action feature

The project comes from Ludo Studio, a Brisbane-based company that earned international recognition with the animated series Bluey and also produced Thou Shalt Not Steal. Allen is the studio’s first locally produced live-action feature film for Netflix. Filming took place in Queensland, including Brisbane and the Gold Coast, connecting the production to the region where its creator grew up.

Daley Pearson created the film and shares directing duties with Jeffrey Walker. Pearson also wrote the screenplay with Sophie Miller. In a statement released when production began, the filmmaker described the project as a story about love, family and the childhood moments that shape adult life. In his words, making the film in the town where he grew up, inspired by the people close to him, was a dream; the team wanted to create a movie families could watch together.

“Allen is really a story about love, family and the childhood moments that shape who we become.”

The studio’s background helps explain why the project has drawn attention before its premiere. Ludo is chiefly associated with children’s animation, while the new project uses actors, real locations and visual effects to bring its extraterrestrial visitor to life. That shift in format does not make the film a Bluey adaptation: the two works are separate stories from the same production company. Netflix presents Allen as a standalone title with its own characters and premise.

Cast brings together Australian film and television names

T.J. Power plays Petey. Netflix’s title page also lists Charlotte Nicdao, Josh Helman, Emily Barclay and Benedict Hardie among the principal cast. Variety’s coverage names Kaipo Heke, Chaydon Jay, Danny Kim and Edward O’Sullivan as well; O’Sullivan appears as a younger version of Petey. Netflix does not identify every supporting character on its catalogue page, so this report does not assign roles that have not been confirmed there.

The mix of performers known from Australian productions and a digital title character gives the trailer two visual threads: Petey’s everyday life and the people around him on one side, and Allen’s presence and its effects on the other. Official materials suggest the alien’s return will shake up the coastal town, but leave viewers to discover how its residents react and what secret he has brought with him. Those details belong to the film rather than being presented as already revealed.

When does Allen arrive on Netflix?

Allen is scheduled for a global Netflix release on November 12, 2026. The date was reported by Variety and TV Blackbox, while the official title page confirms the year, principal cast and availability of the trailer. The release is planned directly for streaming; the information reviewed does not indicate an exclusive theatrical window.

For viewers following film and streaming releases, the feature is also an internationally aimed project from Australia. Netflix describes it as a drama, while the project materials frame it as a blend of science fiction, comedy and family adventure. Audiences will be able to see the complete story when it joins the catalogue. Until then, the trailer is the main official preview of the film’s pace, characters and visual approach.

The release joins the films and streaming coverage followed by Revista Pixel, alongside other Netflix film releases. For now, the confirmed outline is straightforward: Petey and Allen meet again after 20 years, the feature comes from Ludo Studio, and Netflix has set its global arrival for November.
